Types of treatment

Below is a list of the types of treatment currently offered at Croydon Talking Therapies (IAPT), a brief description of each can be found below or click the link for a more detailed explanation:

Guided self-help

This method allows you to try out new ways of building confidence, getting motivated and reducing stress. You can meet with trained psychological well-being practitioners in person and/or talk to them over the telephone.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

This form of face to face therapy is based on scientific principles that research has shown to be effective for a wide range of difficulties.  It is a structured, short-term therapy.

The therapist will work with you to help identify and understand your problems and how they affect your thoughts, feelings and behaviour.  They will help you develop practical skills to deal with these problems.

Behavioural Couples Therapy for Depression

Depression can have an impact on everybody in the family.  If your partner is able to come with you, we may be able to offer couples therapy which can help you both find ways to work together to build on the strengths in your relationship and to learn ways to manage depression together.
