Talking Therapies Southwark offers a Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) psycho-education group. This is a 3 session group that will help people to recognise, better understand, and develop effective ways of coping with their PTSD symptoms. People who attend this group will not be asked to talk about their trauma.
If you are attending the PTSD group you may want to look at the following resources:
- Overcoming Traumatic Stress: A Self-Help Guide Using Cognitive Behavioral Techniques by Claudia Herbert and Ann Wetmore
- Getting Past Your Past: Take Control of Your Life with Self-Help Techniques from EMDR Therapy by Francine Shapiro
- The Compassionate Mind Approach to Recovering from Trauma by Deborah Lee
After you have attended the group, your therapist may advise you to take a follow-on option. For PTSD we would usually recommend trauma-focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) or EMDR as a follow-on option.
